Math learning isn’t just about getting the answer. It’s about learning how to think when you don’t immediately know what to do.
At Education ALIVE, we focus on building confident, independent thinkers — one step at a time.
By high school, many students can compute — but they struggle to reason. They have learned steps without understanding.
We teach students to:
These problems may look “elementary,” but they are building:
Students aren’t being rushed into symbols — they’re being prepared for them.
A student is given a short story problem with no operation highlighed and no formula provided.
Instead of asking, "What do I do first?", they are guided to ask:
Only after the situation makes sense do numbers and symbols enter the conversation.
This is how students learn to think-not just follow steps.

By helping students build these thinking habits early, we set them up for real reasoning success -not just rote computation
These habits are hardest to build later-which is why we focus on developing them early, when curiosity is high and fear is low.
We preserve that.
Instead of teaching how to solve, we teach how to think when you don’t immediately know the answer.
After a few weeks, students can:
They’ve already learned the hardest part: thinking independently.
This isn’t about accelerating math.
It’s about foundational understanding.
Many high school students are still trying to catch up on this kind of reasoning.
Your child is learning it now — calmly, confidently, and deeply.
That’s the difference.
If you're navigating math at home or school, curious how math could be different, or wondering what path might be right for you and your student(s), we’re here to help.
You don’t need to have everything figured out — just a place to start.
Whether you're looking for direct instruction or guidance on implementing this approach at home or school, we'll help you find the right fit.
Please reach us at aliseday@educationalive.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Is a 12-year-old really teaching math?
Yes. EducationALIVE carefully selects the curriculum and provides guidance and oversight. Near-peer instruction helps younger students feel comfortable and confident while learning in a relational, supportive environment.
Who chooses the math curriculum?
EducationALIVE selects and organizes the math curriculum to ensure it is appropriate, consistent, and supportive of student growth.
Is this a replacement for parents or homeschooling curriculum?
No. EducationALIVE partners with families. Parents remain central to educational decisions while receiving guidance, structure, and support.
What if my child is struggling or unsure where they belong?
That’s exactly when families often reach out. EducationALIVE helps clarify next steps and provides support without pressure or judgment.
Is the high school program academic tutoring?
No. The high school near-peer mentorship course focuses on formation, maturity, identity, and readiness to contribute meaningfully to the world.
Is this only for homeschooling families?
EducationALIVE supports homeschooling families through math instruction. We also help schools and can implement this at a district level. The high school formation program was developed for public schools, but its formation-centered approach can be used in many settings, including alternative education programs and adult learning environments.
